Weber River in Riverdale, Utah

  Earthen fill cofferdams:
The Old Ways of Water Management, Page 1

This is an example of the most often used way to cofferdam a river using the old methods of earthen fill material discharges and heavy equipment in the river. For three days, this contractor attempted to place enough fill material in the river to create a earthen fill cofferdam to block the river off and force it through a diversionary channel, but it kept washing out.

The diversionary channel was not large enough to accept the entire flow of the river without causing heavy erosion, the very thing that they were trying to prevent. This worker is standing in the lower end of the diversion channel prior to coffer damming.
