The most common way to cofferdam a river used to be using earthen fill material
and heavy equipment. For three days, this contractor attempted to place enough
fill material in the river to block the river off and force it through a diversionary
channel, but it kept washing out.
The diversionary channel was not large enough to accept the entire flow of
the river without causing heavy erosion, the very thing that they were trying
This is why AquaDams® are the preferred method of diverting rivers.
